About Impetigo* Skin INFECTIONS
ALTABAX treats impetigo skin infections* due to Staphylococcus aureus (methicillin-susceptible isolates only) and Streptococcus pyogenes, which are the two most common types of bacteria (germs) that cause this kind of infection.
Impetigo (impetigo contagiosa) is a highly contagious skin infection that mostly affects children. Children are especially susceptible to impetigo infections because their immune systems are still developing. Impetigo causes small, liquid-filled blisters that become a yellow crust. It’s common in warm, humid conditions and most often appears on the face and limbs. Impetigo spreads easily in schools and child care settings, as well as anywhere groups of people are in close contact. Crowding and poor personal hygiene can contribute to the spread of impetigo.1
If left untreated, impetigo can spread and cause serious or life-threatening diseases.2 Take this simple test and see your doctor if you are concerned that your skin infection may be impetigo.
